PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — September 14, 2026 — Xactus, a fintech and market leader in verification solutions for the mortgage industry, announced its continued support for lenders adopting VantageScore® 4.0 following Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac’s September 9 expansion of its availability. All approved lenders may now originate and deliver eligible loans to the government-sponsored enterprises (GSE) using either Classic FICO® or VantageScore® 4.0. Xactus is also ready to support FICO® Score 10T as lenders prepare for the Federal Housing Administration’s January 1, 2027, implementation of alternative credit score models.
Under the updated guidance, lenders may select either credit score model on a loan-by-loan basis without obtaining prior written approval. The same model must be used for all borrowers on a single loan, and manually underwritten loans must continue to use Classic FICO®. Existing GSE credit-reporting requirements remain in place.
“Credit score modernization is moving from planning to execution, and lenders need flexibility as they determine the right approach for their businesses,” said Shelley Leonard, President of Xactus. “Xactus is ready to support our clients with access to Classic FICO®, VantageScore® 4.0, and FICO® Score 10T, along with the technology, guidance and service they need to navigate this transition efficiently and confidently.”
Navigating a Multi-Score Environment
Xactus has been supporting clients as they evaluate and implement VantageScore® 4.0 and is positioned to extend that support as availability expands across the market. Xactus clients may configure their credit-reporting workflows to receive Classic FICO®, VantageScore® 4.0 or both scores together, based on a lender’s business needs, policies and preferences. This flexibility allows each lender to evaluate and implement the approach that best aligns with its operations while complying with applicable GSE requirements.
The ability to choose a credit score model at the loan level gives lenders greater flexibility, and may also require changes to internal systems, pricing strategies, underwriting processes, investor requirements and partner integrations. Xactus is working closely with its clients to help assess their operational readiness and determine how credit score selection can be incorporated into existing workflows.
The GSE expansion is part of a broader, multi-year effort to modernize credit scoring within the mortgage industry. Classic FICO® remains an approved model, with no retirement date currently announced. The GSEs plan to make FICO® Score 10T available at a later date and will provide additional implementation guidance in advance.
The Federal Housing Administration (FHA) requirements are proceeding under separate implementation guidance, with expected acceptance of VantageScore® 4.0 on January 1, 2027 as previously announced by FHA. This will further contribute to a multi-score environment that lenders will have the option to evaluate based on their business needs. Xactus will continue monitoring agency and investor requirements and providing clients with updates as additional information becomes available.
Through its Intelligent Verification Platform®, Xactus360, Xactus remains focused on maintaining lender choice, supporting transparent access to data and helping clients implement credit score changes seamlessly.
